Description

Chapel Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage, although it largely appears as it was altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick, with remaining elements of timber framing, and has a thatched roof. It is a single-storey and attic structure with two bays, plus a later addition to the rear (south). The western section retains original oak wallplates to the front and rear, and one vertical timber in the facade, while the eastern section is an addition and has eaves at a higher level. Small, flush casement windows with single glazing bars are present. The boarded entrance door, which sits beneath an added slate porch supported by oak posts and brackets, has been divided into vertical panels externally. Internally, there are bevelled beams and exposed joists, along with exposed large purlins with wind braces and a strutted truss.
