2/31 The Stores (Formerly listed as Village Stores) 12 January 1967 II

Shop and house, early C19. Red brick, in Flemish Bond, with slate roof. 2 storeys, 2 bays west, 3 bays south."L" shaped plan. Corner of building is splayed at ground floor and contains shop entrance. This is a pair of 2-panelled doors, lower panels bolection moulded upper panels glazed, in fluted doorcase with triangular tympanum above. The tympanum is leaning outward, at a angle of 45?, has consoles to the three corners and contains the figure of a kilted man with coil of rope and long tobacco pipe. The residential entrance (south) has a fluted doorcase with open pediment and half glazed modern door. There are two shallow bow windows (west) and 3-light cast iron and leaded multiglazed casement above. The south elevation has wooden shop front with moulded pilasters and transom and stone sill. First floor windows are similar to those of the west elevation but with some alterations to glazing; all have stone sills and skewback heads. Saw tooth course at eaves. red tile hips and ridge, four-flue stack.
