Description

The Stores is a shop and house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a slate roof. The building has two storeys, with two bays on the west side and three bays on the south side, forming an "L" shaped plan. The corner of the building is splayed at the ground floor, which contains the shop entrance. This entrance features a pair of two-panelled doors, with the lower panels being bolection moulded and the upper panels glazed, set within a fluted doorcase that has a triangular tympanum above. The tympanum leans outward at a 45-degree angle and is supported by consoles at the three corners, featuring a figure of a kilted man holding a coil of rope and a long tobacco pipe.

The residential entrance on the south side has a fluted doorcase with an open pediment and a half-glazed modern door. On the west elevation, there are two shallow bow windows and a three-light cast iron and leaded multiglazed casement window above. The south elevation includes a wooden shop front with moulded pilasters, a transom, and a stone sill. The first-floor windows are similar to those on the west elevation but have some alterations to the glazing; all windows have stone sills and skewback heads. The building features a saw tooth course at the eaves, red tile hips and ridge, and a four-flue stack.
