Description

This house, now a shop, dates from the late 18th and early 19th century, although there are earlier origins to the rear section. The front is constructed of red and blue brick in a contrasting Flemish Bond pattern; the rear section is of coursed limestone rubble. It has a pantile roof. The building is three storeys high and one bay wide. A part-glazed door is located to the left of a shop window, which is set under a moulded cornice and a slightly projecting hood. The first floor features a 16-pane sash window within a flush wooden architrave, with a segmental arch and stucco cill. A 12-pane sliding sash window is situated on the second floor, also beneath a segmental arch. The eaves are stepped, and there is a brick stack at the end of the building. The rear elevation, facing George Street, exhibits rounded angles and stepped-out projecting corners on the first floor. A plain door and a sliding sash window with glazing bars are also present. The building is included in the list for its contribution to the wider group value of the area.
