Description
Lower Hall Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions. It is constructed of brick nogged timber frame and brickwork, with a slate roof. The original portion is a single storey and attic, one bay wide, with a gabled return. A brick west wing has been added, creating a plan in the shape of an "L". The cottage has a stone plinth and close studding with a middle rail. The front features a framed, ledged and battened oak door with false strap hinges. Window openings now contain replaced flush casements, with leaded lattice glazing. These windows are situated within remodelled gabled dormers featuring planted apex timbers and bargeboards. The north gable is primarily painted black and white but exhibits timbers in a criss-cross pattern at the apex. The interior includes bevelled beams, exposed joists, and an inglenook beam.
