Description
Spurstow Hall Cottages are early 17th century cottages featuring a brick nogged timber frame and a replaced tile roof. The building stands two storeys high with three window bays and includes a double-pile rear wing on the west side. It has a sandstone plinth and boarded doors that are sheltered by monopitch canopies supported on timber brackets. Modern casement windows with lattice glazing have been inserted into the frame panels. The timber framing is small with heavy timbers, lower tension braces, and upper angle braces. A carved oak panel at the first floor level displays a bear's paw and crown, which are symbols of the Crewe Estate. The structure has gable and intermediate stacks. Inside, there are deep bevelled beams and heavy exposed joists.
