Description

Spurstow Primary School is a former Crewe Estate school built in 1872, designed in the Gothic Revival style. The building features red brick construction with a tiled roof and has an "E" shaped plan with single and two-storey sections. It has a projecting blue brick plinth and a framed, ledged and braced door set in a stone-dressed opening that features a Tudor arch with a keystone. Above the door, there are small trefoil-headed lights in stone frames, along with a clock framed in stone and blue bricks, complete with a drip mould.

An octagonal tower rises above the door, resting on a square base with a cornice that has stone broaches. The tower includes louvred quatrefoil openings, wide bracketed eaves, and a steep pagoda roof made of shaped slates. The tall, two-light windows are stone dressed, featuring flat cusped ogee heads and blue brick relieving arches above. Diaper work in blue bricks is present between the windows.

The east front showcases a gabled projecting porch with trefoil-headed lights and carved fleur-de-lis panels on the sides. This porch is flanked by chimney stacks that reduce in size, small stone-dressed ogee-headed windows, and tablets displaying Crewe Estate emblems. Above the porch, a small stone-dressed window is set in a half dormer. The entrances and dormer feature barge boards carved with gothic motifs. The roof is adorned with alternating bands of red and blue tiles and includes triangular mid-slope vents. Inside, the school has four-panel doors with herringbone infilling.
