Description

This is a milepost located 200 metres southeast of the Tetton Lane junction, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a cylindrical stem. The stem is inscribed with "W H SMITH AND CO: MAKERS: WHITCHURCH" and carries curved plates that display distances in sans serif capitals to various locations: Middlewich 2 miles, Davenham 6 miles, Northwich 8 miles, Sandbach 3 miles, Church Lawton 8 and a half miles, and Newcastle 15 miles. This milepost served as a turnpike marker.
