Description

The Murgatroyd Club is a farmhouse that has been converted into a staff club. It likely dates from the late 16th century and was extended and altered in the 19th century. The building features an oak frame with plaster panels, and parts have been rebuilt in brick. It has a steeply pitched clay tile roof, which may have originally been thatched.

The structure is two storeys high and has two windows. It showcases oak small framing and some close studding, with decorative panel infill of oak. There are diagonal braces above the plinth, below and above the first floor, and below the eaves. The first floor slightly jetties out on a bressumer supported by shaped brackets. The south-east gable and part of the rear have been rebuilt in brick.

On the south-west side, there is one leaded casement window and two replaced small-pane wooden casements. Each storey has a three-light leaded casement, and there is a small replaced wooden casement in the attic, along with one leaded casement at the rear. A lateral chimney is located at the centre of the south-west side. The rear wing is made of brick and does not have any visible features of special interest.

The interior was in the process of being repaired in 1985 and was not fully inspected, but stopped ovolo beams were noted in the north-west front room, along with corner fireplaces that are likely from the late 19th century in both front rooms. The building was formerly known as Yew Tree Farmhouse.
