Description
Lock number 69 on the Trent and Mersey Canal was built in 1777, designed by engineer James Brindley. The lock features walls made of brick and stone, with a single upper gate and double lower gates that have been replaced with steel. At the lower end of the lock, there are curved abutments with flush stone quoins. Each side of the lock has a flight of stone steps leading down to the lower canal level, with the eastern steps being curved. A footbridge has been replaced.
