Description

The Willows is an early 17th-century cottage, subsequently altered, located on Plant Lane in Moston. The cottage originally comprised three rooms and has one and a half storeys. It is constructed of oak framing, both large and small, set upon a brick and stone plinth. The roof is covered with cement tiles, originally thatched. Parts of the external walls have been rebuilt in brick, with the central part of the eaves raised approximately 0.6 metres to allow for greater headroom. The front door and some of the casement windows have been replaced. The building features flush gable chimneys, and formerly had a ridge chimney, of which only the stack remains.

Inside, the cottage retains chamfered oak beams and oak wall framing. The right-hand room contains an inglenook fireplace with a shaped oak bressumer and two stopped ovolo beams. The roof structure includes oak purlins with diagonal braces and common rafters.
