Description
The canal milepost located immediately north of Rumps Lock on the Trent and Mersey Canal dates from 1819 and is made of cast iron. It features a tapered circular stem that is inscribed with "R&D STONE 1819" within a raised quatrefoil. The curved plate displays the distances to Shardlow, which is 74 miles away, and Preston Brook, which is 18 miles away. The milepost is topped with a domed cap, and all lettering is presented in Roman capitals.
