Description
Bridge number 168 carries Booth Lane and the Trent and Mersey towpath over the entrance to the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal. Built in 1829, it is constructed of brick and stone featuring brown English bond brickwork. The bridge has a deep segmental arch with rusticated stone voussoirs. There are plain projecting stone bands at both the road and towpath levels, along with stone copings. A stone retaining wall is present on the east side of the road. Additionally, stones above the crowns of the arch on the towpath and the west side of the road are inscribed with "WARDLE CANAL 1829" in incised Roman capitals.
