Description
The canal milepost, located on the Trent and Mersey Canal, was constructed in 1819 and is made of cast iron. It features a tapered circular stem that is inscribed with "R&D STONE 1819" within a raised quatrefoil. The curved plate displays the distances to Shardlow, which is 75 miles away, and Preston Brook, which is 17 miles away. The milepost has a domed cap, and all the lettering is presented in Roman capitals.
