Description

This is a canal milepost located on the Trent and Mersey Canal, dating from 1819 and made of cast iron. It features a tapered circular stem with an inscription on a raised shield that reads "R&D STONE 1819." The curved plate displays the distances to Shardlow, which is 76 miles away, and Preston Brook, which is 16 miles away. The milepost is topped with a domed cap, and all lettering is presented in Roman capitals.
