Description

This is a canal milepost located on the Trent and Mersey Canal, dating from 1819 and made of cast iron. It features a tapered circular stem that is inscribed with "R & D Stone 1819" and carries a curved plate that reads "SHARDLOW 91 MILES : PRESTON BROOK 1 MILE." The milepost has a domed cap, and all the lettering is in raised Roman capitals.
