Description
This is a canal milepost located on the Trent and Mersey Canal, dating from 1819 and made of cast iron. The milepost has a tapered circular stem that is inscribed with "R & D STONE 1819" and supports a curved plate that reads "SHARDLOW 89 MILES : PRESTON BROOK 3 MILES." All the lettering is in raised Roman capitals.
