Description
Fairlawns is a cottage built around 1800, with some internal features likely dating from around 1700. The exterior is made of brown brick in Flemish bond with some pale headers, topped by a grey slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has two windows, presenting an almost symmetrical appearance. There is an added one-storey wing on each side, with the right wing having its roof replaced with corrugated iron. The entrance features a four-panel half-glazed door with reeded flush lower panels. The windows are casements with three 6-pane lights, set under painted cambered gauged-brick arches, and there are two flush gable chimneys.
Inside, the front rooms have chamfered oak beams, some of which are reused, with one beam featuring stopped chamfers. There is a dogleg stair with winders, which has likely been replaced. The interior also includes six-panel doors and broad-board doors on HL hinges. Notably, the broad-board door leading to the right rear bedroom has a pair of ornate long hinges, which probably date from around 1700.
