Description
The Stop Lock Keeper's Cottage, located on the west side of the Trent and Mersey Canal in Dutton, is an early 19th-century lock-keeper's cottage. It is constructed of whitewashed brick and features a graded grey slate roof. The cottage is two storeys high and has a symmetrical layout with two rooms. The entrance consists of a boarded door with a blocked semi-circular fanlight above it. On the lower storey, there are two 16-pane casement windows, while the upper storey has two 12-pane casement windows that are adorned with cambered arches and projecting stone cills. Above the doorway, there is a rectangular blank recess, and the verges are decorated with two courses of corbelled brickwork. The cottage also has flush gable chimneys made of blue brick. To the left gable-end, there is a single-storey outshut made of brick with a slate roof, which includes a boarded door. The interior of the cottage could not be inspected.
