Description
The Dutton Stop Lock, built in 1777, is located on the Trent and Mersey Canal. It features stone walls that form the lock chamber, with timber lock-gates; there are double gates at the north end and a single gate with a bar that has been replaced with steel at the south end. The lock has a negligible fall, designed to manage the slightly differing water levels between the Trent and Mersey Canal and the Bridgewater Canal to the north.
