Description

Stanthorne Mill is an 18th-century mill building with 19th and 20th-century additions. It is constructed of whitewashed brick with a slate roof and stands three storeys high with an attic. The entrance front dates to the 19th century, with a gabled end of three bays and two storeys. A central double door leads to the ground floor, flanked by 2-light casement windows, all with brick hood-moulds above. Similar lateral windows are present on the first floor, and a central loft door has been converted into a window with 3 x 4 panes. The left return side features nine bays and varying window placements. The three bays on the left are 19th-century, with a cambered-headed doorway at ground floor level, flanked by cambered-headed windows. Above these are two single-light cambered-headed windows, and a single central window to the second floor. To the right are four first-floor lights and five second-floor lights. The right-hand front is similar to the left, with a projecting outshut on the left. Internally, some original machinery remains, including a drive shaft, wheels with metal cogs, and a sack pulley to the top floor.
