Description
Newton Old Hall is a house dating from 1604, as indicated by the date painted on the bargeboard. It is constructed of brown brick in an irregular bond and features a stone-slate roof. The building has two storeys plus attics and is L-shaped, with a projecting cross-wing on the left and a wing with two windows on the right. There is a flush square chimney on the right gable, and a 19th-century lean-to kitchen is attached to this gable. The windows include a mix of small casements and sashes, some of which are leaded.
Inside, the house features a stopped ovolo oak beam in the front room of each main storey of the cross-wing, along with other chamfered oak beams, oak purlins, and an oak ridge-tree set diagonally. Newton Old Hall is located adjacent to Newton Hall on St Ann's Road.
