Description

The Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal Aqueduct, built in 1829, carries the canal over the River Wheelock. It is constructed of blue brick and features a wide semi-circular arch composed of three rings of brick voussoirs. The curved parapets terminate in circular stone piers, and there are raked retaining walls along the river banks topped with stone copings. This aqueduct is a solidly handsome structure with a simple design.
