Description

No 3 St Mary's Chare is an 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall and features three windows. The front is made of painted ashlar, and it has glazing bar sash windows. The roof is slate with coped verges. A central recessed entrance is flanked by shop windows, which have a joint pilastered fascia above. To the left of the entrance, there is a six-panel door with a hood over it that leads to a through passage.

At the rear, there is a courtyard formed with Nos 5 and 7, which is partly flagged. The building is partly brick-built and also has glazing bar sash windows. The south gable end contains two attic lights. There are further extensions and outbuildings that extend into St Mary's Wynd, which are two storeys high and have three windows with glazing bars and timber lintels, along with two smaller two-light windows below the eaves. Brick chimneys are present, and there is a tumbled brick verge to the left.

No 3 St Mary's Chare is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 19A (odd), Nos 2 to 8 (even), and Nos 16 to 20 (even), as well as No 4 Meal Market, with No 1 being of local interest.
