Description
5 and 7 St Mary's Chare are early 19th century fronts to two 18th century cottages. The building is two storeys high with two windows and features painted ashlar. It has glazing bar sash windows and two plate glass shop windows, with a central door on the left and a similar shop front on the right under a joint fascia. The right-hand door has six flush panels, and there are three-pane rectangular lights above both doors. At the rear, there is a courtyard with glazing bar sash windows in an early 19th century three-storey extension to the west. The front of this annex, facing St Mary's Wynd, has three storeys and two windows, constructed of brick with stone quoins, partly covered in ivy. There is a large Venetian window on the first floor to the right, featuring stone architraves and dressings, and the roof is hipped to the right. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 19 (odd) and Nos 2 to 8 (even), as well as Nos 16 to 20 (even) and No 4 real Market, with No 1 being of local interest.
