Description
2 and 4 St Mary's Chare is a late 18th century to early 19th century building that stands three storeys tall and features three windows. The structure is made of stone with a rendered front and has a slate roof topped with a brick gable end chimney. It includes stone lintels, cills, and an eared architrave above a central doorcase, which is currently blocked. The windows are glazing bar sash windows, wider at the sides, and there are two attic lights in the north gable. The building has 20th century shop fronts to the left and on the return to the north, which is in Meal Market, with the former linked to a doorway. Number 4 has an original bow fronted shop window with glazing bars, linked to a doorway on the left that features a traceried fanlight, also blocked.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 19A (odd), Nos 2 to 8 (even), Nos 16 to 20 (even), and No 4 Meal Market, with No 1 being of local interest.
