Description
ST MARY'S CHARE 1. (West Side) 5334 No 17 and No 17A (Fandango's Club) NY 9364 1/120 NY 9363 2/120

- C17 with C18 and C19 decoration to front. 2 storeys and attic. 4 windows. Rendered stone front with chamfered quoins. Slate roof with ornamental kneelers carrying carved cubes. Glazing bar sash windows with raised surrounds and broken segmental pediments with rosettes. 4 dormers with shaped gables (probably C19 decoration), and 2 light mullioned casements. Foiled panel on ground floor to left. Segmental coach arch to left of centre leading to yard. Traces of bolection mouldings on back archway to yard. 2 gabled extensions to rear of different depths. Kneelers to verges. 3 gabled dormers to south with 2 light mullioned windows and kneelers, a similar dormers to south with 2 light mullioned windows and kneelers, a similar dormer to west. Three 2 light mullioned windows in south elevation and later windows (1 blocked) with buck dressings. Interior of No 17A has very solid C17 oak staircase with turned balusters, uncut strings, and heavy newels with finials below.
Nos 1 to 19A (odd) together with Nos 2 to 8 (even) and Nos 16 to 20 (even) and No 4 Meal Market, form a group of which No 1 is of local interest.
