Description

1 Eastgate is a 17th-century building, with later 18th and 19th-century additions and alterations. The front of the building is constructed of coursed rubble. It has a single storey and attic, with two dormers; one is modern, and the other has a flat top and a casement window with glazing bars. The side of the ground floor features a reeded doorcase with a cornice, alongside a fielded, part-glazed door. To the left is a modern window with a wood lintel, and to the right a sliding sash window with glazing bars and a cement lintel. The front elevation incorporates a mid-19th century shop front with three arcaded lights, a wood cornice, and fascia, incorporating double doors and plain pilasters. A three-light canted oriel window is positioned on the first floor. Stone gable ends are visible, and the roof is covered in pantiles, with a finial to the gable end above initials. The rear premises extend along Churchyard and date to the 18th century. These are rough rendered, with brick to the side, and have a pantile roof with stacks at the gable ends. There are three irregular windows, consisting of sliding sashes and casements with glazing bars, and two ground floor windows with wood lintels. A garge entry is positioned to the left, alongside a doorway with plain wood pilasters and a cornice. A further two-storey section at the rear dates to the early 19th century; it is rough rendered with brick to the side, having three modern windows and three ground floor openings, all beneath a pantile roof. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 15 (odd) and the premises adjoining Sleaford Maternity Home to the west.
