Description
21 Market Street is a 17th-century building located on the east side of Market Street. It is constructed of rubble with an ashlar front and has a stone-tiled roof. The building features two storeys plus an attic, with the attic window being a three-light casement with stone mullions and a dripmould. On the first floor, there are two-light stone-mullioned casements, also with a dripmould that extends over both windows. The ground floor is occupied by a modern shop front in a wooden surround, which includes a square-headed recessed doorway to the left. The side elevation, which overlooks No 20, has a square-headed doorway topped with a hollow semi-circular hood supported by large cut stone brackets. Additionally, there is one three-light and one two-light stone-mullioned casement on the first floor, along with a later wood-framed casement to the left of the door. This building forms part of a group with Nos 5 to 8 and the boundary wall at Priory Lodge, as well as Nos 10 to 35, with an elevated pavement in front of No 21.
