Description
Nos 25 and 26 Market Street is a mid-18th century building that stands three storeys tall. It is constructed of coursed rubble and features a slate roof with eaves. The building has plain string courses at the first and second floor levels, as well as at the window-sill level of the first floor. There are five windows, mostly sash windows with glazing bars, set within architrave surrounds. The second floor has four windows with casements grouped in pairs.
No 25 has a square-headed doorway on the left, which includes an architrave surround, an oblong fanlight, and a half-glazed door. On the ground floor, there are three windows, followed by a square-headed doorway to the right of No 26. This doorway is adorned with Tuscan pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment. The doorway level of No 26 corresponds to the first floor level of No 27, which is downhill, so access to No 26 is provided by a turning flight of six stone steps on the left side.
Nos 25 and 26 form a group with Nos 5 to 8 and the boundary wall at Priory Lodge, as well as with Nos 10 to 35 and the elevated pavement in front of No 21.
