Description

Nos 37 and 39 on Kirkgate are late 18th century buildings featuring scored stucco, a stone band, and a moulded eaves cornice supported by brackets. They have a slate roof and rise to two storeys. The passage entry includes a door leading to No 37, while No 39 has a panelled door set within a 10th century moulded architrave topped with a trefoil pediment. The ground floor has three sash windows, each with triangular pediments, and above are four sash windows with segmental pediments. In front of these buildings is a long and narrow cobbled forecourt that stretches from Nos 27 to 55, without any divisions or railings, and is open to the pavement. Nos 13, Nos 17 to 25 (odd), Nos 31 to 55 (odd), No 38, and Nos 46 to 86 (even), along with Nos 47A and Kirkgate House, form a group.
