Description
Nos 53 and 55 on Kirkgate are 18th-century buildings with two low storeys, featuring roughcast walls and a slate roof. No 53 has a square entry to the yard, a panelled door, one sash window on the ground floor, and three above, all set in plain stone architraves with low proportions. No 55, which is somewhat later, has a central panelled door accessed by four steps and a modern timber porch, along with two sash windows on the ground floor and three above, all in plain stone frames. In front of these houses is a long, narrow cobbled forecourt that extends from Nos 27 to 55, without divisions or railings, and is open to the pavement. These buildings, along with No 13, Nos 17 to 55 (odd), Nos 36 and 38, Nos 46 to 86 (even), No 47A, and Kirkgate House, form a group.
