Description
38 Kirkgate is an early 19th-century building that stands two storeys high and features scored stucco with a slate roof. The corner shop, formerly known as No 36, has an angled doorway and two small shop windows, with sash windows above set in stone architraves. The left-hand return wall includes a warehouse door and a pulley above it. No 38 is located at the rear, adjacent to the churchyard, and is similar in style, with an iron lampholder positioned at the angle next to the churchyard footpath. The area in front has cobbles and forms a small square in front of the garden of Kirkgate House. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 13, 17 to 25 (odd), 31 to 55 (odd), 38, 46 to 86 (even), along with No 47A and Kirkgate House.
