Description

Leazes Cottage, along with part of the stables and coach house attached, is a coachman's house built in the mid-19th century. The building features rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings and roofs made of Welsh slate. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The right bay is set back and includes steps leading up to a four-panelled door with an overlight, all recessed in a raised stone surround. There are similar stone surrounds and bracketed sills for two plain sash windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The deep eaves are supported by paired brackets and are interrupted by a central gable with bargeboarding on the main left part of the building. A delicate wrought-iron leaf finial adorns the gable. The panelled square chimneys feature a plinth, band, and wide cornice. The two bays of the squared sandstone rear stable wing retain their original openings and chimney. Beyond this chimney, the building has undergone significant alterations and is not of special interest. The property is included for its group value.
