Description
This building comprises two houses, situated at Longhorn Ends, built around 1850. The construction utilizes roughly-dressed, coursed squared sandstone with projecting quoins of millstone grit, complemented by ashlar dressings. The roof is covered in Welsh slate with flat stone gable copings. The design follows an L-plan and features two storeys and three bays. A shaped stone staircase leads to a renewed central entrance door, which has a three-pane overlight within a surround of pilasters supporting an entablature. The entablature includes an oak-leaf pattern in the corners, beneath a prominent cornice that projects over the pilasters. The windows are late 19th-century sashes, with flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. Cast iron gutters are supported by paired, moulded stone brackets extending from the eaves. The low-pitched roof has curved kneelers and corniced chimneys. At the rear, there’s a renewed door and inserted door, alongside 16-pane ground-floor windows and 12-pane first-floor windows. A coach entrance to the road, positioned on the bank of the first floor of the right wing, features an elliptical arch with alternate-block jambs, voussoirs, and a projecting key. The rear wall along the road has a round cope, supported by cast iron principals with shaped finials. A stone-flagged path and a cobbled rear yard complete the exterior features. This building has group value due to its contribution to the character of the area.
