Description
20 Monk Street is a three-storey, stucco-fronted villa built in a classical style. The front is painted and features a cill band at the first floor. At the center, there is a recessed arch that extends through both the ground and first floors, adorned with a moulded swag above it. The building has a modillion eaves cornice and a Welsh slate roof.
The facade includes three windows, with the ground floor windows set in arched recesses, featuring large sash windows with six panes over six, and half panes on either side. The round-headed doorway has a six-panel door and a fanlight, complemented by a trellis porch with a tented roof. The second-floor windows are plain six over six pane sashes, while the upper floor windows are three over three sashes, located only on either side. The villa has deep eaves, a low-pitched roof, and tall rendered stacks on each gable.
The street front is enhanced by intact wrought iron railings, stone dwarf walls, and gate-posts. The rear elevation features an arched stair window in the center, with two over two pane sashes on the left and six over six pane sashes with three over three above on the right. The interior has not been seen during the resurvey.
