Description

The Knoll is a small villa built in a classical style, likely in the 19th century. It is L-shaped, with a main rectangular block facing south and a rear service wing. The building is entirely rendered and painted, probably over brick, and has a Welsh slate roof.

The villa is two storeys high and features two windows on the main garden elevation. On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows with 2 over 2 sash windows, flanked by 1 over 1 sash windows. These bays are set beneath a verandah supported by elaborately carved timber posts, which has a hipped slate roof. The walls have pilasters at the corners and in the centre, with a plat band separating the floors. The upper floor windows are 8 over 8 pane sashes, each with raised stucco architraves that include keystones. The roof has a low pitch with rendered stacks at the central and right gables.

On the right return, there is an external stack at the gable and two plain sash windows on the two-storey rear wing. The left return, which is the entrance front, has three bays arranged as 2 + 1, with the right-hand bay being the gable end of the main range. This bay features a canted bay window on the ground floor, complete with its own small pent roof, and an additional sash window above. The eaves project on brackets. To the left, there are two 8 over 8 pane sash windows, one larger on the ground floor and a 6 over 6 pane window in the centre above the porch, all with the same keyed architraves.

A pedimented Tuscan porch, which is a later addition, covers the entrance; the original Tuscan architrave of the doorway remains behind it. The door is a 4-panel design with the upper panels glazed and includes an overlight. There is a blind lean-to range to the left and a service wing beyond. The rear elevation has not been inspected, and the interior details are not available from the resurvey.
