Description

Priory Lodge is a villa built in a severe classical style, dating from the 18th century. It features an irregular front on the north side, with two storeys and a basement, and has a layout of one window, one window, and two windows. The low-pitched hipped slate roof has a wide soffit that ends in a moulding above a plain fascia. The walls are made of stucco, and the east wing has a slightly projecting centrepiece that contains the entrance, topped with a plain cornice and fascia. The ground floor has recessed plain architraves with a cambered head, and a plinth. The main block projects slightly on the west side, which has two windows, plain recessed architraves on the first floor, and a plain cill band. There are cornices on brackets above the recessed architraves of the tall ground floor windows, and the basement openings have cambered arches protected by cast-iron rails. The windows are sashes set in reveals.

An Ionic porch with two columns and pilasters frames the wide entrance, which includes a fanlight and sidelights. Attached to the west side is a wall between piers. The symmetrical rear elevation has two storeys and three windows, with a first-floor band. The first floor features sashes, while the ground floor has French windows within a cast-iron trellis verandah supported by six openwork columns linked by arches.

The roadside forecourt includes a wall and pier made of yellow brick on the east side, connecting to the adjoining property at No 8. There are remains of high garden walling at the rear, including a tall octagonal pier with Gothic details made of stucco on brickwork. Inside, there is a curving staircase.
