Description
The Andover War Memorial is a stone cenotaph that stands on a hexagonal base and has a square plan. It features a rusticated base, Tuscan corner pilasters, a dentil cornice, and a stepped top. Each side of the monument is inscribed with the names of those who fell, with a carved wreath in relief above each inscription. The main inscription reads in capital letters: "To honour / the memory / of those / men of Andover / who fell / in / the Great War / 1914-1920." The frieze is also inscribed in capitals on all four sides: "Our Glorious Dead / Rest In Peace / But Their Name / Liveth For Evermore."
On either side of the memorial, there are flanking walls that display the names of those who fell in the Second World War. The central plaques on each wall state: "Borough of Andover / to Honour the Memory / of those / who gave their Lives in the / Second World War 1939-1945," while the outer plaques list the names of the fallen.
