Description
Nos. 40-46 Pen-y-dre are a group of four attached houses built in the 20th century, specifically designed in the Rhiwbina Type 2 style. The houses are two storeys high and feature roughcast render with a band at the first-floor sill level. They have hipped slate roofs and brick stacks. The design is symmetrical, with an eight-window front that mainly consists of original 16-pane sash windows.
The central section has an advanced two-window bay topped with a hipped roof and a central round-arched passageway. On either side, there are two-window bays with doorways positioned close to the inner angles of the central block, featuring original half-glazed doors beneath flat hoods. At the ends of the group, there are advanced bays with hipped roofs, each containing a single window on both floors. The ends also have round-arched doorways and two windows on the upper floor.
It is noted that all windows of No. 40 have been replaced.
