Description
Pentre Farmhouse and Cottage is an early 19th-century building that combines a farmhouse and a cottage into one structure. It is constructed from rubble stone and features hipped roofs with brick ridge stacks. The farmhouse, which faces south, has an imitation slate roof and rebuilt stacks. Its formal six-bay front includes 9-pane sash windows on the upper floor and arched recesses below, where there are inset 12-pane sashes. The stone voussoirs above the windows add to its architectural detail. Notably, the second window on each floor is blank, with the ground floor window being shorter than the others.
At the northeast, there is a hipped rear wing with a four-bay east front. This wing has two blank windows, one 6-pane sash, and an altered window above that is also blank. The ground floor features a door and two additional blank windows. The north end wall has a blank upper window and a broad window on the ground floor. The west side of the wing has a window above and a door with a window below, both with stone voussoirs. The rear of the main range shows scattered fenestration and includes two doors.
On the west end, there is a lean-to structure against the rear of the cottage, which has a large 16-pane plastic window facing south. The cottage itself faces west and has an off-centre three-window front, featuring 9-pane sash windows above and a pair of casement windows below, with a door to the left. To the right, there is a 12-pane window (4-pane width) above another pair of casement windows in a blocked coach-entry. The coach-entry features a timber lintel painted to match, while the cut stone jambs suggest that the door was originally a window. The south end wall of the cottage has an arch with cut-stone voussoirs and a pair of casement windows inset with stone voussoirs.
