Description
Capel Newydd is a chapel built in 1848, featuring painted roughcast walls and a slate roof with bracketed eaves. The lateral facade includes two large arched windows in the center and two outer ledged doors. The windows have 20th-century hardwood glazing with blue glass, and the arches are framed by cut stone voussoirs and cambered door heads. There is also a diamond plaque in the center inscribed 'Capel Newydd gan y Trefnyddion Calfynaidd, Adailadwyd 1763, Ailadailadwyd 1848'. The side and rear walls are made of rubble stone and were originally two stories with two windows each, but one bay on each side is obscured by later additions. An attached chapel house to the left is not included in the listing, and there is a 20th-century red-brick vestry attached to the right.
The interior of the chapel remains unaltered from 1848, featuring a plain ceiling and a three-sided gallery supported by three wooden columns, with the bases raised above the pews. The gallery front has a grained bracket cornice and plain paneling. The entrance front contains a vestibule with two 15-pane windows and four-panel doors with overlights and colored glass margins beneath the gallery ends. Above the windows is a grained bracket cornice, and there is a turned-baluster rail connecting the ends of the gallery. Inside, there are box pews with painted paneling and grained ends, with the two back rows stepped up, and raked pews in the galleries. The great seat and pulpit are plain panelled, featuring curving steps on each side, ramped rails, and a shallow curved panelled pulpit front with low rails beside a taller book-rest.
