Description
No 2 Cilwendeg Lodge is a gate lodge built around 1835-1840, which was raised by one storey around 1910. It features whitewashed stucco with a slate gabled roof and red brick end stacks. The building is two storeys tall and double-fronted, with original arched sash windows on the ground floor that have Gothick glazing bars and are recessed in arches that extend down to the ground. There is a plinth shelf around the building, and the windows are set back in recesses. The centre has a taller arched doorway with a radiating bar fanlight and a four-panel door. A fine broad front portico is supported by two pairs of timber Roman Doric columns and an entablature, with a pedimental gable above that features early 20th-century bargeboards. The ground floor also has a similar window at the north end. The added upper floor includes two arched windows with horned sashes, where the upper sash is square but concealed by the window frame. At the rear, there is a gabled single-storey section.
Attached to the lodge is the western half of a semi-circular sweep of railings that extends from the rear northwest corner. These railings have spearhead rails with panelled Bath stone and a pier topped with an urn finial. From the front northeast corner, there is a length of taller spearhead iron rails, followed by two openwork iron piers that feature cast-iron scrolls in panels, acroteria, and urn finials. Between these piers is a pedestrian gate with dog-bars and a scrolled mid-rail.
