Description

The Counting House at Cilwendeg Farm is an 1832 lofted outbuilding, with the upper floor designated as the Counting Room according to a plaque. The building is constructed of rubble stone and features a graded slate roof with an off-centre stone ridge stack. It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range.

On the southeast front, there is a 12-pane sash window to the left and a blank window to the right on the first floor, which is offset to the right above a ground floor door and a small 2-light casement. All windows have cambered heads with cut Cilgerran stone voussoirs and slate sills. The southwest gable end is accessed by outside stone steps leading to a ledged door, flanked by a 12-pane sash window on the left and a blocked window (formerly a 12-pane) on the right, all featuring cambered heads, cut-stone voussoirs, and keystones. In the gable, there is a keyed roundel with a slate plaque that reads, "A Counting Room Builded ad 1832 for Morgan Jones Esq."

The rear northwest side has larger upper windows, including a pair of casements to the left and a 16-pane sash to the right, along with two ledged doors below. These also have cut-stone voussoirs to their cambered heads. Inside, the loft contains two rooms, one of which has a fireplace, and features stapled collar trusses. The ground floor boasts a very large timber-lintel fireplace and a single slate screen to the left of the door, with smoke blackened joists.

Attached to the southwest corner is a rubble stone embankment that curves to a gatepost at the southwest and has two slate-lined recesses on the north side, likely used as beeboles. There is also a brick pier between the recesses.
