Description
The Open Bay Cow House at Cilwendeg Farm is an early 19th-century structure featuring a long range of cow-houses built from rubble stone and topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. On the right side, there is an enlarged opening fitted with a 20th-century metal door, followed by six elliptical-arched entries that have cut Cilgerran stone voussoirs. The first entry is infilled, while a door with a timber lintel is positioned closely between the first and second entries, adjacent to the cow-yard wall. The second entry is infilled with a window, and the remaining four entries are open.
Beyond these, there is an opening leading to a smaller yard at a higher level, which features four closely spaced round-arched openings supported by square piers and also made with Cilgerran stone voussoirs. The outer two openings are blocked. At the left end of the structure, there is a short added section that includes a door and stone voussoirs above it.
The roof structure consists of a seven-bay section at the right end, followed by a ten-bay section where the tie-beam trusses may have been replaced. This is then followed by a four-bay roof with collar-trusses and an additional three-bay section at the end. The rear of the ten-bay section contains a blocked arch.
