Description
The farm buildings at Pentre Farm date from the 19th century and consist of several phases, likely from the early, mid, and later parts of the century. Constructed from rubble stone with slate roofs, the west side features three sections that step down the hill, with the lowest range added last and displaying later 19th-century details. This section includes two small zinc-clad gabled dormers and a ground floor with a window, door, another door, and a window, all framed with cut Cilgerran stone surrounds and triangular heads. There is also a depressed-arched cart entry with a cut-stone head and legged doors. The southeast corner is chamfered, and the south side has similar windows on each floor.
The central range is notably taller, featuring three tall open arches supported by stone piers with cambered heads and stone voussoirs. It has a first-floor loading door and a boarded window on each side, all with stone voussoirs, and a loading door at the extreme right. Under the eaves on the centre right, there is a large iron wheel for belt-driven machinery. The rear side has a central loading door, with a window on each side and a gable above for a hoist. The upper range has a slightly higher roof and includes a large east side lean-to that is open to the south, possibly for an engine to drive machinery. There is one six-pane window on the east side, and the two-storey wall within the lean-to has an upper loading door to the left. The upper end of the lean-to features a timber lintel over an opening to the barn, with tall double doors beneath a cambered arch. The interior contains an inserted floor and a deep rear lean-to porch with massive cambered beams over the rear double door. The rear of the barn has a loading door and a vent loop to the left of the projection.
Adjacent to this is a long north range that is single-storey and set at right angles to the main building. It features one louvred ridge vent and one zinc-clad dormer to the left. A continuous slate shelf runs along with paired brick dove holes. The ground floor openings are framed in Cilgerran stone with triangular heads, including two windows to the left, an altered opening with the jamb of a former door to the right, followed by two windows, a door, and two more windows, all spaced widely. At the extreme right, there is a 20th-century door opening. The interior is broad with a scissor-rafter roof, and at the upper end, there is a massive pine beam barn wall. The rear has gables at each end, with a roundel over a triangular-headed window.
