Description

Gadlys Woods Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with earlier origins. It is constructed of painted rubble and brick, originally a timber-framed house, and features slate roofs and a brick chimney. The entrance elevation faces north. The left block has two gables, with the left gable made of brick and the right gable made of stone. The left gable includes a decorative panel above a 16-pane sash window, and a similar window is located on the ground floor with a string course between the floors. The right gable has a 16-pane sash window at string level and an entrance door set back in a recessed porch.

To the right of this block, there is a set-back section with two 16-pane sash windows on each floor and a blocked square window above an outshut with a brick chimney. The rear of the building features a gable on the right with a four-paned sash window on the first floor and a broad window on the ground floor. To the left, there is a slightly set-back block with a gabled dormer containing two four-pane sashes on the first floor (with a small window at the end); on the ground floor, there is a modern window to the right, a Yorkshire sash at the end, and a small squat window in between.

On the left end, there is a lean-to with a four-pane sash window. At the eastern end of the building, there is an attached in-line barn made of blockwork, with timber-framing said to be visible in the wall shared with the house. This farmhouse is a well-preserved example of vernacular architecture and has group value with adjacent listed buildings.
