Description
Rose Cottage is one of a group of cottages likely built in the 18th century by the London Lead Company, known for being the first to use coal for smelting lead and for producing much of the silver used in English coinage during the early 18th century.
This cottage is a single storey with an attic, constructed of painted brick and topped with an old slate roof. The front wall features a central shouldered chimney. To the right of the entrance door is a small window, while to the left there is a blocked camber-headed window. On the left side, there is a lean-to with a door and window, and on the right side, another lean-to with a door and a small loft window in the gable apex, which is rendered.
Rose Cottage is listed as a rare example of an industrial workers' cottage from this period and has group value with other nearby cottages and Gadlys Woods Farm.
