Description
Dingle Cottage is one of a group of cottages likely built in the 18th century by the London Lead Company, known for being the first to use coal to smelt lead and for producing much of the silver for English coinage in the early 18th century.
The cottage is a single storey with an attic, constructed of painted brick and featuring an old slate roof with raking gable parapets. The front wall rises to form a central shouldered chimney. There is a door on the left side, a modern bow window on the right, and a further small window to the right of that. The cottage has modern extensions at both ends.
This building is a rare example of an industrial workers' cottage from this period and is listed for its group value with other nearby cottages and Gadlys Woods Farm.
