Description
Hone House is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Sheep Street in Charlbury. The building is constructed from coursed squared rubble with timber lintels and features a 20th-century tiled roof. It has two storeys, a cellar, and an attic, presenting a symmetrical three-window range. The front entrance consists of a 19th-century panelled door with an integral top light, sheltered by a hood with a modillion cornice supported by consoles. The windows are casements with glazing bars, set beneath replaced lintels, and there is a wooden sill indicating a blocked central window on the first floor. The house has two gabled dormers, each with two-light casements. The steep-pitched roof is complemented by two gable end chimneys, with the right chimney finished in brick. There is likely an 18th-century outshut at the rear. Inside, the cellar features a stone barrel vault, while the left ground-floor room has a moulded beam. The ground and first floors have stop-chamfered girders, and the attic boasts a complete set of stop-chamfered ceiling beams.
