Description

Lindsell House is a late 17th-century house located on Sheep Street in Charlbury. It features rough ashlar and coursed squared rubble, with a blocked shop front on the right and timber lintels. The roof is made of stone slate, with slate on the rear. The building is L-shaped, consisting of two storeys and an attic, and has a three-window range. The ground floor includes two tripartite windows with large-paned sashes that have horns. The first floor has casement windows with ovolo moulded lintels. There are two gabled dormers with casement windows and 19th-century ogee barge-boards. The house has two gable-end chimneys, with the left one finished in brick. A door is located in a 20th-century lean-to extension on the left side, behind a boundary wall. Inside, the left ground floor room features flagstones, a fireplace with a stone arch, and a 19th-century reeded doorcase leading to a wood-lined stone newel stair. This stair includes a wooden mullioned window in a projecting tower that is part of a later wing at the rear.
